Cooperation Jackson presents a discussion on Afrikan Spirituality – its roots, disruption and ultimate restoration - at the Lumumba Center for Economic Democracy and Development located at 939 W. Capitol Street, Jackson, MS 39203. The discussion will be led by Jesus “Chucho” Garcia, the Consulate of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela – New Orleans and Iya’falola H. Omobola, co-director of the Lumumba Center and head of the Center’s New Afrikan Spiritual Mindset Awareness Institute.
Jesus “Chucho” Garcia, is the Consul General of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in New Orleans. He is a world renowned Africana scholar, specializing in the retention of African culture in the Americas. Chucho is also a practitioner of African spiritual practices drawn from many traditions.
Iya’falola H. Omobola is an Iyanifa, as well as an Orisha and Egungun initiate of the Orisha/Ifa tradition of Nigeria, Afrika and has walked this path for the past thirty five years.
Afrikan Spirituality has been denigrated over the centuries but has managed to maintain its integrity, influence and power over the ages. Join us as we explore how to best understand the possible explanation of what happened and why its re-emergence is so crucial at this time.
