The average adult in the United States spends more than ⅓ of their life at work. The vast majority of the places we work are mini-dictatorships, where the employers determine who is employed and why, what the wages and working conditions are, and how the profits and proceeds are distributed and used. In a supposedly democratic society, the question is why is the undemocratic “employer/employee” relationship still tolerated as a social norm? How can we democratize the places we work? What social advances might this transformation enable for working people?
