This article is a summation of the advances and challenges we have encountered in our work over the last year and half, with a particular emphasis on developments in 2018. It focuses on what we learned from these developments and how we are applying these learnings to strengthen our practice and advance our work in 2019 and beyond.

In These Times spoke with Kali Akuno, director of the CJA-affiliated Cooperation Jackson, a Mississippi-based group that aims to build a “solidarity economy” that is “anchored by a network of cooperatives and worker-owned, democratically self-managed enterprises.” According to Akuno, movements must defend the best components of the GND, while challenging–and offering alternatives to–the capitalist logic embedded in some of its proposals. “While this is still in the drafting phase,” he argues, “let’s get it as near perfect as we possibly can.”

"Can the Working Class Change the World?", is the latest work by leftist author, Michael D. Yates. Yates is known by many for his bestselling work "Why Unions Matter". "Can the Working Class Change the World?" is published by Monthly Review Press and was released in the fall of 2018.

Mr. Yates gracoiusly discusses our work and vision as models of what members of the working class can do to to transform their lives and the world around him. We are humbled by the inclusion and doing everything within our power to be worthy of the includion. The purpose of this rally was to combat the false solutions of the Global Climate Action Summit organized by California Governor Jerry Brown to promote Carbon Trading, and to present the world with real solutions being practiced and developed by frontline communities and people's throughout the world.
