In honor of Afrikan History Month Cooperation Jackson presents Deacons for Defense. This 2003 feature film dramatizes the contributions of the legendary Deacons for Defense and Justice, which formed in Bogalusa, Louisiana in 1964. The Deacons for Defense and Justice spread to form over 20 chapters in Mississippi and Alabama, before fading from public view in the late 60’s and early 70’s. We will be honoring their particular contributions towards our struggle for self-determination, self-reliance and self-respect.
