Workers throughout the United States and the world are in crisis. We suffer from decreasing wages, the rise of temporary and precarious employment, disrespect on the job, major anti-union and union busting campaigns, mechanization, wage theft, poor to non-existent health coverage, and the list goes on. To end this crisis, workers everywhere must unite and fight back.
The May Day Alliance is looking to foster greater communion and unity amongst workers in the metropolitan Jackson area by bringing rank and file workers together to break bread, tell their stories, and celebrate our individual and collective accomplishments. So, for Jackson May Day 2016 we are hosting an award celebration and workers communion at one of the newest houses of labor in Jackson, the Chokwe Lumumba Center for Economic Democracy and Development, which is the operational home of Cooperation Jackson, an emerging network of worker-owned and self-managed cooperatives.
The Jackson May Day Alliance is Cooperation Jackson, MASE/CWA, JFT, MIRA, the Mississippi Workers Center for Human Rights, United Auto Workers.
