On January 6, 1966, Amilcar Cabral, the chairman of the African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde, known in Portuguese as the PAIGC, gave one of the most critical theoretical presentations on the theory of self-determination and national liberation, particularly as it related to the African continent in the 20th century, in Havana, Cuba at the 1st Tri-Continental Conference of the Peoples of Africa, Asia and Latin America. The presentation was called, "The Weapon of Theory", and it changed the course of struggle throughout African and became a guiding light in the Black Liberation Struggle inside the territory now called the United States.
