The uprising in Ferguson against systematic police violence and murder of Black people has played a pivotal role in shattering the “myth of a post-racial America.” This myth is aggressively promoted by corporate media, the government and its military, particularly since the election of Barack Obama. Ferguson exposed the reality that the election of a Black man has not changed the virulent racism of the U.S.  The massive military-style occupation of Ferguson in the wake of Michael Brown’s murder also revealed that colonial subjugation is not just reserved for places like Iraq, Afghanistan or Palestine.   

What does this deepening police state in the United States mean for the future of Blacks and Latinos?

Ferguson is one of many cities—Oakland (CA), Dallas (TX) Brooklyn (NC)– where the Black people have recently rebelled in outrage over the extrajudicial killing of a young Black male by local law enforcement. These eruptions are acts of resistance to a system that has steadily transformed the Black working class into a economically marginalized, disposable population. They are objectively uprisings against the logical outcome of this disposability: mass imprisonment, lockdown of communities and death by cop.
